Library Helpers Read to Students at Janvier School

By Noelani Brown, Sixth Grade Student

When I first walked back into the school where I once was about seven years ago, I got to see so many familiar faces of teachers that I once had at Mary F. Janvier School. I got to walk down the hallways and remembered where I used to line up as well as where my classrooms were located. It was an absolutely fun experience to read to the younger students. I loved how I could connect with the kids and ask them questions based on the book or off of their personal lives such as if they had any siblings or their favorite color. I noticed that the kindergarteners were very shy, but the first graders were very open and excited for us to read to them. When the “Cat in the Hat” came into their classrooms they were really excited and liked how they could get a high five from him and even get a quick picture.  One exciting thing I got to do was read to my little brother Rahsaan in his first-grade class; he loved it!  I was really happy about getting to experience something new and meeting so many nice students and teachers. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to read to the students at Janvier Elementary School.
