Today in Mrs. Cockerill's class students conducted a decimal investigation using Play-Doh to help visualize decimal values. Yes, even big kids get excited about Play-Doh! Students were tasked with dividing a given whole into equal pieces to represent the tenths, hundredths, and thousandths place values. After learning that as we move to the right in the place value system we divide each part into 10 smaller pieces, students soon realized just how small a thousandths piece would actually need to be! Students could be overheard saying, "I can't make this piece. It's so tiny!"
