Principal's Message

Reutter School Family,

Given the headlines that are surrounding our nation regarding the Coronavirus, I felt that it would be best to publish two letters that have been drafted by our Superintendent of Schools over the past week in our weekly update.

Dear Township of Franklin School District Community,

The Township of Franklin Public School District is committed to the health, and safety of our staff and students. As you are well aware, the coronavirus has controlled the headlines for the past few weeks. Please be assured that the district continues to stay abreast of the situation and that the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have continuously informed districts of the recommended best practices and have provided up to date information on the spread of the virus. Please know that the district has already taken action including the following:
 Reviewed current policies/protocols to maximize the level of preparedness o (Policy #2412 – Home Instruction Due to Health Condition)
o (Policy #8451 – Control of Communicable Disease)
 Ongoing monitoring of student and staff attendance  School nurses continue to monitor staff and students for flu like symptoms
 Using anti-bacterial products on all high-touch surfaces daily
 Increased the frequency of school building cleaning by custodial staff
 Purchased additional cleaning products to meet increased usage demand  Assessing technology capabilities in case of unanticipated long-term closure

The most effective way to stay healthy and minimize the spread of infectious disease is to follow basic health best practices such as: enforcing hygiene, washing hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds, avoiding touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, and covering up coughs/sneezes. These nonpharmaceutical interventions are a common-sense approach to combat the spread of any virus. Additional information regarding the virus can be found on the New Jersey Department of Health’s website at https://www.nj.gov/health/. If necessary, updated school district information will be posted on the district website www.franklintwpschools.org . I appreciate your collaboration and support in keeping our students and staff safe and healthy as possible.

Yours in education,

Mr. Troy Walton Superintendent of Schools

The following is an additional message that was sent to all families this week:

Parents and Guardians,

We are in the process of finalizing virtual learning plans should we be directed by the health department to close school for an extended period of time. Related to this, please complete the survey below so we can learn more about student access to technology at home. Should the district choose to utilize home instruction during a school closure, the home instruction day(s) will count towards students’ required 180 days of instruction. Please be assured that we are confident in our abilities in providing this type of instruction and that we will not need to adjust our schedule to test our systems or capabilities.

Thank you for your participation in our survey.
